A Little bit of sparkle!

Hello lovely people!

I hope you all having a lovely weekend in the lead up to Christmas. I thought i would just share with you a sparkly twist to a nude nail that I have been loving recently. I love wearing dark colours in the winter but I have been loving wearing this combination. So lets get into it!

It is really very simple, I applied two coats of  Barry M Gelly nail varnish in the shade Lychee, which is a lovely nude shade and gives a lovely finish. Then ontop I have just added two coats of  Barry M glitter nail varnish in shade 349 'Rose Quartz'. I have only used this on one nail just to give a little bit of sparkle however if you wanted to go all out you could use it on all the nails.

So this is my very simple and quick way of making a nude nail wearable at Christmas.

What are you favourtite colours to wear this time of the year?

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will speak to you all very soon!

Update and Top 5 Christmas movies!

Hello lovely people,

So last weekend I had full intentions on posting something however the weekend ended up being a rather special one because I GOT ENGAGED!! It was a complete and utter surprise but I am so happy. It was the best early Christmas present ever! so as you can guess my weekend was full of celebrations. This week has also been busy as I am finishing off assignments and packing ready to go home for Christmas. So I thought I would just do a quick post about my top 5 Christmas movies!

1. Muppet's Christmas Carol
If you read my Christmas tag blog you will know that this is my all time favourite Christmas movie. If you love the Muppets then you have probably seen it but if not watch it.

2. Nativity
Now as a teacher I always think how epic it would be to be able to create a nativity like this! This film is one of those that is really unrealistic but just super funny, but it is a great one for Christmas.

3. Love Actually
Now who doesn't love this film. It basically sums up Christmas. If you don't like romantic comedies then this maybe is not the film for you but this is really just one of those great Christmas movies.

4. The Holiday
Along the same lines as love actually this film is just a really sweet Christmas movies. It is one of those films you could just curl up with your best friends and a glass of mulled wine and watch.

5. Four Christmases
This is a really funny film and is basically about how being a family at Christmas is the most important thing. It is not about how much you earn or what presents you give, it is about being together.

What are your favourite Christmas/holiday movies?

So there is my top 5 Christmas movies. Sorry this is such a short post but as you can imagine my life is a bit crazy at the moment. I will be posting something this weekend so keep your eyes peeled for that. I hope you are all enjoying the run up to Christmas and I will speak to you soon!

Christmas Tag

Hello lovely people!
christmas tree and fireplace #red #traditional
(image from Pinterest)
Its the 1st December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can hardly contain my excitement!!!! I absolutely love Christmas and today I plan on spending the day watching Christmas movies with some mulled wine. I have some really exciting things planned for this blog over this Christmas period so stay tuned.  However I thought there would be  no better way to kick of the month then with a Christmas tag blog. I got the idea to do this blog from MakeupSavy, so here goes...

1. Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?
When i was younger we used to have a real tree every year. I love the smell of real christmas trees, but they are always a hassle to clear up. We have two cats at home and they would always brush against the tree so there would always be leaves everywhere. Then we got a synthetic tree and actually it is pretty good. So after having both i prefer the synthetic, with some christmas tree yankee candles lit.

2. You're in a coffee shop, it's December, what do you pick?
I am always a massive fan of a mocha from starbucks and they have just brought out a orange mocha which i really like. If you like Terry's chocolate orange, then you will like this. So I would have to order that.

3: What's your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?
I have always been very traditional when it comes to Christmas and that includes decorating so I always go for the green and red theme.

4. Giving or receiving?
As much as i love opening presents from the people I love, I absolutely love giving presents. I love shopping for people and giving them something that they may not be asking for but completely sums them up as a person.

5. To mince pie or not?
Definitely to mince pie! I absolutely love mince pies and have been finding really hard to resist buying them until December.

6. What's your traditional Christmas lunch?
Turkey with all the trimmings. My dad does this amazing recipe with the Brussels sprouts where he adds bacon and walnuts and lemon juice, it is just amazing. Christmas lunch is probably my favourite meal of the entire year and I normally get through about 2  plate fulls! Greedy I know.

7. Christmas day fashion
Start the day off in pj's, but for Christmas lunch I will probably wear a Christmas jumper and a skater skirt, or a pair of leggings with some boots. Then I will wrap up warm with some wellies for a walk after lunch with the dog.

8. What's your favourtie Christmas song?
'All I want for Christmas is you' by Mariah Carey. This song mostly involves me dancing round my room in pj's and singing into a hairbrush!

9. What's your favourite Christmas movie?
This was easy, Muppets Christmas Carol! 'Tis the season to be jolly and joyous, fa la la' that is my attempt as singing. I literally watch this movie about 50 times over christmas.

10. Open presents before or after lunch.
Definitely before! We have this tradition where we have a stocking at the end of our bed every year, that has little bits and bobs in, which we open when we wake up. Then we open the main presents from each other before lunch. Then after lunch we tend to open presents from friends who have given us presents.

Just doing this tag has made me so excited! Please feel free to do this tag, I would love to here your responses.

love G.x.

Monochrome outfit of the day

Hello lovely people!

It was only when I looked back at these photos that I noticed two things; near enough everything from this outfit is from New Look and secondly I kind of has a monochrome theme going on. I was actually wearing this outfit to a meeting I had at university and I thought I would share it with you guys.

Skirt: New Look
Top: New Look
Cardigan: Primark
Tights: Primark
Boots: New Look

I hope you have all had a lovely week. The fact that it is the 1st December on Sunday makes me very excited as Christmas is my favourite time of year.

Rocky Road birthday cake!

Hello lovely people!

This weekend was my boyfriend's birthday and as he loves rocky road I decided to make a rocky road inspired birthday cake. I thought it would be nice to share the recipe as it is really simple to make and doesn't need any baking time.

You will need:
350g digestive biscuits
125g chocolate (whatever variety you prefer, I used dairy milk chocolate)
225g unsalted butter
25g caster sugar
55g mini marshmallows
100g white chocolate chips
Half a pack of rolo's (you can add as much or as little as you want)

First of all you need to add together the butter, sugar and chocolate in a large pan. Then melt over a low heat till all the butter has melted.

Crush the digestive biscuits into little pieces. I used a potato masher as it was the only thing I had around but a rolling pin would do the same job.

Add the biscuits to the pan and stir till they are all covered. Then add the chocolate chips, marshmallows and rolo's and mix again.

Then grease a sandwich tin with a little butter and add the mixture. Take as spoon and smooth over the top of the mixture.

Then place in the fridge for 3-4 hours just to make sure everything is set. And that is it. Obviously you can leave it that way but as it was for a birthday I decorated it with some white icing and the rest of the rolo's.

The thing I love about this is that you can change pretty much anything you want to depending on who you are making it for. I have made white chocolate one and added jelly tots and jelly beans for more of a kid friendly cake. I also love adding raisins to milk chocolate as well.

I hope you have enjoyed this and maybe found a new receipe to cook. Let me know in the comments if you have made this before and what you like to add to your rocky road.

Autumn Tag

Hello lovely people!

Beautiful Autumn Leaves
(image from Pinterest)
So today I thought I would share the Autumn Tag with you. Now I know this has been going round the blog world for a long time but I thought I would share all the things I love about Autumn.

So here goes!
For Autumn what is you favourite....

Thing about it:
I love the colours of Autumn, it is just so pretty. I love taking walks through the woods with the dog and seeing all the different colours of the leaves.

Favourite drink:
I am not a massive fan of all the special drinks in coffee shops but now that it is getting colder there is nothing I can't resist more than a mocha and if I am feeling really naughty then I may have some whipped cream on top.

Favourite candle:
I am a massive fan of Vanilla Cupcake by Yankee candle all year round but if I was to pick one specifically for autumn it would have to be Black Cherry by Yankee candle. It smells amazing.

Best Lipstick:
Rimmel 'a drop of sherry'

Go to moisturiser:
I am always a fan of Nivea daily essentials, light moisturising day cream.

Go to colour for the eyes:
I always love neutral shades and I love using browns and creams on my eyes in the autumn.

Favourite band or singer:
I have been loving The Fray throughout the Autumn, it is the perfect type of music to just chill to with a cup of tea. If you don't know who they are, check them out on youtube.

Favourite outfit to wear:
A big comfy knit jumper, some leggings, some fluffy socks and some boots.

Autumn Treat:
I always treat myself to a new pair of boots every autumn and I love picking up new candles as well.

Favourite place to be:
Snuggled in front of a good dvd with a cup of tea and a lovely open fire. Bliss.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this. What are your favourite things about Autumn?

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Love G. x.

October Favourites

Hello lovely people!

Wow it has been ages since I have last said that. Basically just to fill you in on my absence from blogging is basically two words, FINAL YEAR! I am currently in my final year of uni and I definitely didn't anticipate the amount of work we had to do. Even though we are in less, the amount of work has gone through the roof. So because of this I have not been blogging so much. Now I am definitely not going to be able to keep up with post 3 times a week, so I am promising you I will definitely post something once a week and if it is more than that then call it a bonus.

So with that being said let's move onto my October favourites. Now I have a lot of skincare stuff in this favourites and that is mainly because I have been working on a new post about my autumn makeup so I didn't want to mention the products twice. So lets get into it.

First up is the L'Oreal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 purifying micellar solution (such a long title). Many people have said it is a dupe for Bioderma and it is easy to see why. This stuff is amazing at removing makeup, it also leaves your skin feeling super soft. As it is hypo-allergenic and suitable for sensitive skin it is really gentle on your skin. It is also really cheap. The only downside for me personally is the dispenser. I have mentioned previously that I prefer a pump as you can control how much product you get out. I find with the tip and pour dispenser, I end up spilling it everywhere and always using too much product. This might just be me!

Next up is the Balance me, Pure skin face wash, for normal to combination skin. This stuff is a great face wash and leaves my face feeling super clean after using it. It is 98.8% natural origin so I know it is going to be good for my face. The only thing I don't like about this is the smell. It is really organic and I know people who actually really likes the smell of this, but it is just not for me.

This next product I received in a glossybox sometime ago and it is the daily microfoliant by Dermalogica. I love this stuff, the powder has a talc like consistency. You add water to this and rub your hands together to make a paste like consistency which you then you to apply all over your face. You then simple wipe it off with a flannel. It feels like it has beads in so you can really exfoliate it into your skin. It is £40.30 for a full size bottle so I am not sure if me student budget will stretch that far.

I have also been loving the Soap and Glory body scrub. I have been using it a lot more this month now that it is colder and my skin is dryer, the body scrub just helps get rid of all the dead skin and leaves my skin feeling super soft. It also smells amazing.

My last two favourites are lip products. First is the Burt's Bees lip balm which I have been loving this month. It has peppermint in so it makes your lips feel really fresh and also keeps your lips feeling soft and smooth.

To go with this I have also been loving the lush lip scrub in mint julips which tastes like after eights. I love lip scrubs and at this time of year it is a must have in my book. I apply it about once a week and it works wonders.

What are your October favourites?

I hope you have enjoyed this and I
will see you all in my next post.

let's talk about lips

Hello lovely people!

Now as it is getting colder every day and is now fully into Autumn, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to talk about lip care. The one thing I hate about the cold months is the effect is has on your skin and especially you lips which is why it is so important to keep them moisturised. So I thought I would share with you some of the lip care products that i have lying around at the moment.

First up is the Palmer's Coco Butter Lip Balm. This helps prevent and protect chapped, cracked or wind burned lips. It also has the distinct smell that all the Palmer's products do which I personally love, but if you don't like the Palmer's smell then it is probably not for you. In terms of moisturising the lip product does very well, it keeps your lips hydrated and moisturised which is at the top of requirements for lip products.

Along the same lines as this is the Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm. It has vitamin E and peppermint in which helps keep you lips lovely and soft. The thing I also like about this lip balm is that it is 100% natural which is really important. This lip balm tastes amazing and makes my lips feel really fresh which is a weird feeling in a lip balm but I would definitely recommend it.

For more of a fun approach I would suggest the Maybelline baby lips. I have hydrate, intense care and peach kiss. Now these are definitely not as moisturising on the lips as the previous two mentioned but they are definitely a fun little thing to have in your handbag. Also, the smell and taste amazing, I think they are more along the same lines as a lip butter as they do leave your lips feeling really soft.

Talking about lip butters, I have loved the body shop lip butters for years now. I have tried every flavour there is but at the moment I have the mango flavour. I love using this lip butter before I go to bed as I feel it gives more coverage then a normal lip butter. It smells amazing and leaves your lips feeling super super soft.

The most important thing I think goes hand in hand with a good lip balm is a good lip scrub. A lip scrub gets rid of all the dry skin and buffers your lips. My personal favourite is the lush lip scrub. I have Mint Julips which I can only say, tastes like after eights. The great thing about this apart from the fact you can lick it off, is the fact that it is not heavy or rough on your lips but it works really well and leaves your lips feeling super soft. I tend to use this every time my lips are feeling a but rough.

What are your favourite lip products?

Thank you so much for reading. I am thinking of doing a question and answer blog which I will be posting next Friday. Obviously in order to do a question and answer blog I need some questions to answer, so please feel free to leave some questions in the comments section. The questions can be about anything really however if they are inappropriate I will not be answering them. I will take all the questions next Thursday and will post the blog next Friday.

Thank you all for reading, I love reading all your comments!

Liebster award

Hello lovely people!

So I was tagged by the lovely 'Makeup and Stilettos' who I will tag here for you to all go and check her out. It is basically a way of getting people's blogs out there.

So here are my answers to the questions:
1) What is your best feature inside and outside?
I have always been told I am a very good listener and very caring of others. I hate it when people feel upset or hurt, so i would say that is my best feature inside. Outside, um, this is rather difficult because I have always had confidence issues with how I look but I would probably say my eyes.

2) What is the most minimalistic  you are comfortable wearing?
Well today I am literally wearing concealer and mascara and that is probably as much as I will put on if I am not really doing much but don't want to not wear any makeup.

3) What is your favourite skincare line?
Nivea! Always has done, always will.

4) What is your favourite mascarra?
I am really bad when it comes to mascara, I never stick to one but if I had to pick one I would probably say the Maybelline Falsies mascarra.

5) What is the best makeup brush you've ever used?
I love the real techniques brushes but if I had to choose one of them I would the expert face brush. I use it for applying foundation and it buffs the skin really well.

6) What is your favourite nail varnish and colour?
Out of all the questions this is definitely the hardest to answer, mainly because I just love nail varnish. I have always loved BarryM and especially Lychee from the gelly range but I also love Essie nail varnishes so it would have to be between them.

7) Do you have passions other than makeup and what are they?
I am training to be a teacher so I guess that would be a passion. I also love visiting museums as I am a massive history geek. I also love reading which links into both I guess.

8) A thing you cannot live without?
My iphone!

9) Do you have a pet?
Yes, I have a dog called Archie and two cats called Max and Polly. (They are both girl cats, we had a mix up of gender when we first got Max)

10) What is your wildest dream you want to achieve?
I don't really consider this as wild but the dream i want to achieve in life is to be an outstanding teacher and also to get married and have a family. I guess my wildest dream is probably to get recognised one day for my blog. That would be amazing.

11) Who is the most inspirational person in your life?
I would have to say my mum.

My 11 questions:
1) what is your favourite makeup brand?
2) What one word would describe your personality?
3) why did you start blogging?
4) If you were on a desert island what 5 things would you take with you?
5) what is the one makeup item you couldn't live without?
6) How often do you wear makeup?
7) How often do you paint your nails?
8) If you had to choose one place in the world to visit, where would it be?
9) Tea or coffee?
10) if you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
11) What would you like to achieve with your blog?

The people I tag

Now I know there are lots of people out there who have under 200 subscribers and if one of them is you then please feel free to use this tag. Make sure you tag me back as I would love to read your comments.

September Beauty Favourites!

Hello lovely people!

As I say every month, it's that time again where I share all the things I have been loving this month. This has been a crazy month for me. I had a lovely week away with my boyfriend as his parents and we went on a canal trip. I came back with some very defined arm muscles, and a dislocated toe but hey it was a fantastic week and the weather was amazing, which for England it is sort of a miracle. The other thing I have been doing this month is getting ready for my final year of University. For those who don't know I am studying Primary Education so that means at the end of this academic year I will be a qualified teacher! Yikes!!! scary times! but that means that this month I have been busy getting ready for and moving into my house I share with two of my friends, who just happen to also be on the same course. So yeah, enough of that, lets get on with the things I have been loving this month.

The first thing is Victoria's Secret pure seduction hand and body cream. I got this at the beginning of September ( I'm tempted to say) when I went to London with my boyfriend. I spent ages by the counter just smelling the different scents and trying to decide whether I wanted the body lotion or the body spray. I eventually decided on the body lotion and I am glad I did. This smells incredible, I think to some people it may be too sweet but I love sweet smelling things. It claims to be 24 hour moisturising, however I don't think it lasts this long, especially if you have really dry skin. I tend to use this in the morning and then use a more intense moisturiser at night however it is a lovely moisturiser and keeps all my dry bits, especially my elbows nice and moisturised and smelling lovely.

The next thing I have been loving is the Sleek blush in Pomegranate (923). I brought this ages ago but haven't really used it regularly, however it is such a lovely berry shade and perfect for Autumn/winter. It is really pigmented however, so make sure not to use a lot. Also when you first put it on it will look like a berry just threw up all over your cheeks, the trick is to blend, blend, blend.

I have also been loving this Bourgois Bronzer. Now I know everyone has one of these and it is easy to see why. It is in the shape of chocolate and even smells like chocolate and who could resist that. I absolutely love the packaging for this, it is so cute and different to most bronzers, which I love. I love a good bronzer and the colour this gives off is lovely and easy to blend. I have heard some people say it is too orange, however I haven't found this. I really recommend this bronzer if you haven't tried it.

The next thing is the 24 colour tattoo by Maybelline. This stuff is amazing and if i was to keep my makeup on for 24 hours I am sure this would last. Once you have this stuff on, it does not budge. I got the shade Pink Gold and it is a lovely colour either on its own or as a base for something darker for a more evening look. I highly recommend these and are definitely going to purchase some more on my next trip to boots.

I have also been loving these two real techniques brushes, the expert face brush and the setting brush. I have been using the expert face brush for my foundation as it really buffs it into the skin and sets it really nicely and then I have been using the setting brush for my under eye concealer and also for powder for setting my makeup under the eye.

The last makeup product I have been loving is these two soap and glory mother pucker lip gloss sticks in Plum Jam and Nudist. I won't go into much here but I did a full review of these which I will link here.

So that is all my beauty favourites. I do have some random favourites which I will put up in another post but I hope you have enjoyed reading this.

What have been your September favourites?

Soap and Glory Sexy mother pucker gloss stick

Hello lovely people!

To kick off this Wednesday I thought I would share another lip purchase I made. I actually brought these quite a while ago but haven't got round to posting about them until now. I was in boots and came across these little gems which are the sexy mother pucker gloss sticks. I hadn't really heard many people talk about these so I thought I would give them a try. The fact that they were on special as well made the temptation even harder to resist. So the two colours I picked up were nudist and plum jam.

The first thing to say about these is they smell amazing, as do all Soap and Glory products but these smell extra amazing. They also taste really good, which in a lip product is not such a good thing on me cos it doesn't last 10 seconds! Secondly the finish they give is so smooth and glossy, it is like a lip gloss but with lipstick staying power. Nudist is a perfect nude colour and a great one to carry in your handbag if you need a little something extra on your lips. Plum Jam is a great Autumnal colour, it is not a really heavy colour so is easy to carry off on a day to day basis but then at the same time is great for an evening look if you want a bit of colour but aren't quite brave enough to try a bold lipstick.

Nudist

Plum Jam
I will definitely have to check out the rest of the colours in this collection.

Have you tried these? What do you think?

Let me know I love reading your comments :)

Ode to Lychee

Hello lovely people!

Again I have to apologise for my lack of posts this week. Basically, it has been mental as I am moving back to University tomorrow so have been busy packing up my room. I have also taken my Literacy Skills Test this week, for people who don't know I basically have to do a literacy and maths skills test in order to gain my qualified teaching status. So by passing this, it means I am half way there. Phewww...

Anyway, onto what this post is really meant to be about and that is nail varnish! Now I know I am probably really late jumping onto this band wagon but I have recently discovered the gel range from BarryM. I picked up the colour 'Lychee' and I am now officially obsessed. The application is really easy and the finish is lovely, it gives a lovely shine without even applying a top coat. It is the perfect natural colour and it lasts for nearly a week without chipping, which is actually really good for me. They are also only £3.99 (bargain!!!) and they can be picked up from any Boots or Superdrug.

This was only a short post but I just had to share my love of this nail varnish. I am definitely going to try some more from this range!

Have you tried this range? What did you think of them?

I hope to make my posts more regular once I move back to Uni so keep your eye on the blog! If you like it please like, comment, follow. I really love hearing from you lovely people and really enjoy reading your comments.

Maybelline Dream Pure BB cream review

Hello lovely people, so I am back from a lovely week away and back to normal. I thought I would kick off the week with a review I have been asked to do and that is the Maybelline Dream Pure BB cream.
I picked this up at the beginning of summer and to be honest it has been a life saver and I have worn it everyday of the summer. The thing with BB cream is that it is a lot lighter then foundation and for summer that is perfect. It is also for oily skin and although I don't class my skin as oily during the summer I think I need that little bit extra coverage. This BB cream also contains 2% salicylic acid which basically means it is prevents spots. This BB cream claims to do these 8 things:

The application with this product is good, it is really light on your skin so looks really natural, there is the option to build it up though if your skin isn't looking that great and I think it is really easy to do so with this product. I think this products works well with being applied with your hands or a brush, however I prefer to use a real techniques face brush to blend it all in. The good thing about this is that it really blends well into your skin so doesn't leave you with lines if you are adding more product to certain areas of your face.

The only problem I would say is the colour selection, it only comes in light or medium so there is not much to choose from if you are in between that, however I do think if you blended them both together or just blended one with a darker or lighter foundation then that could work well too.

I think this is a really good product if you are just beginning to get into makeup and want something light for your skin. However it is also really good for the no makeup, makeup days now that it is getting into winter. I definitely will be repurchasing this product.

Have you tried this BB cream?

I hope you have enjoyed this, let me know if there is anything else you would like me to review.

Surviving your first night at uni!

Hello lovely people!

So here is a slightly different blog. I was looking back through all the pictures I took when I moved into my uni halls ready for first year. I had no idea what I needed to take and no idea what I would need for my first night/week of uni. It seems hard to believe that my sisters are now off to uni and I am beginning my third and final year of uni. Now I know how stressful moving day and how emotional your first night away from home can be so I thought I would just share a few tips I learnt on how to get through my first night at uni.

So some essentials you are going to need:
- Wet wipes/ baby wipes: They are handy for absolutely everything and a must have essential.
- Dry shampoo: Lets face it moving in is going to be sweaty and quite often after meeting all your housemates
and settling in you just don't have time to wash your hair before you go out at night. So dry shampoo is the answer.
- Body Spray: To make you smell extra fresh and fruity when you go out on your first night.
- Fake Tan/ Gradual Tanner: I am not a massive fake tanner but I will pack on the gradual tanner before I go out at night because lets face it no one wants to see ghost white legs.
- Dressing Gown: To stop the awkward covering up when you meet your housemates in the kitchen the morning after.
-Slippers/flipflops: Because lets face it after a night of pre drinking the kitchen is the last place you want to step barefoot.
-Mirror: In my experience the mirrors are always placed in the worst lighting areas possible, so bringing your own mirror is the way forward.
- Bottle opener: However I have become pro at opening bottles with a flat head screwdriver!

Now I have talked a lot about going out and in my opinion going out on the first night is the best thing you can do even if you don't like clubbing. Lets face it everyone is going to be in the same position as you, they are all going to be new. The first night out for me was a real bonding session with the people in my flat and it was the best time ever.

Now everyone is going to have a difference experience, but when it comes to the first night or the first week, we are all in the same boat. I went through a couple of days where I was really homesick but then I stuck at it and I love uni.

I hope this helps some of you who are going to uni and I wish all of you that are the best of luck!

Let me know what you think! If you have been to uni, what are your tips?
